Ancient Roman History

Ancient Rome has a fascinating history. It was a glorius age studied by people all over the world. It was one of the greatest civilizations the world has seen.

Civilization of ancient Rome was the agricultural community that was founded on the Italian Peninsula during 10th century B.C. Located along the Mediterranean Sea; it became one of the largest and most dominating empires in the ancient world.

A civilisation which began as a small agricultural community became one of the greatest of the ancient empires. Romans were known as the greatest aqueduct builders of the ancient world.

The Colosseum, originally the Flavian Amphitheatre (Amphitheatrum Flavium), is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It was considered to be one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering.

The class of Rome was very class-conscious and highly hierarchical. In ancient Rome, class was determined solely by birth. But later on there was mobility between different classes as the class was not solely determined by birth. There was a vide gap between the upper class and the lower class.

Though the Romans accepted building techniques from the Greek, they created a new architectural style for which they are well-known, which was based on religion to some extent.

Roman army was probably the largest, most efficient and most successful of all the armies of the ancient world, conquering most of the known world.

753 BC: Rome was founded

509 BC: Republic was established

406 BC: Rome attacked Veii

264-241 BC: The First Punic War

218-202 BC: The Second Punic War began

149-146 BC: The Third Punic War

65 BC: Caesar elected aedile

59 BC: Caesar, Pompey and Crassus struck a triple alliance

48 BC: Julius Caesar defeated Pompey

44 BC: Death of Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar was declared dictator of Rome. A slew of Roman senators and nobles stabbed him to death on March 15, and this day is known as the ides of March.

History of ancient rome incomplete without mentioning Julius Caesar.

Julius Caesar was a General, a Statesman and a Politician. He was undoubtedly the most famous man of primitive Rome. He invaded Gaul under an excellent campaign which is used in studies to train Generals even today.
